HARTWELL, GA - The 2008 Polar Bear Plunge will be on Saturday, February 23, at Hart State Park. This is the 12th annual benefit for Heart Haven - a shelter for victims of domestic violence. It is sponsored by the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence.
According to the website, the NE GA Council on Domestic Violence was established in 1995 to serve Hart, Franklin, and Elbert counties. It has a voluntary board of directors comprised of citizens from the three service areas. The Council accepts donations of household items, clothing, volunteer hours, and money. In August 2001, Heart Haven, the emergency shelter was completed and began serving battered women and their dependent children. Heart Haven can accommodate eight women and children.
