Published Feb 10, 2008

CLEMSON, SC - The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Clemson University will host an Executive Development Program for Park and Recreational Professionals on from February 24-28, 2008, at the Madren Center (pictured). The Executive Development Program (EDP) for Park and Recreation Professionals provides training and networking opportunities to professionals with a focus on the latest concepts, practices, and management techniques needed to continually improve themselves, their departments, and the communities they serve.

The Executive Development Program is a two-year program. Each year consists of a 22- to 30-hour week of intense classroom instruction. The week begins on Sunday evening with registration, dinner and orientation and closes on Thursday evening with a graduation banquet.

Faculty and Curriculum

The curriculum is developed with the input from the EDP Advisory Board and former EDP participants. The faculty come from varied fields, including business, public administration, recreation and parks, and academia. They offer a unique blend of practical and theoretical information, while challenging participants to engage in new ways of thinking about their roles as administrators and leaders.

The program is designed along four core disciplines: leadership, legal and business issues, developing trends, and impacts. Each class (first and second year attendees) will attend classes from these four disciplines specifically selected to enhance their experience. Some second year classes will be designed as a continuation of a first year class. Potential topics for each of the disciplines are listed here.
