Turkey Hunts Scheduled for Bussey Point

SAVANNAH, GA - The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ J. Strom Thurmond Project will host two turkey hunts in the Bussey Point Management Area in 2008. On April 4 and April 5, a primitive weapons turkey hunt will be conducted. Muzzleloaders and archery will be allowed on both days of this hunt. Hunters who are selected may bring a guide or guest. The guest will not be allowed to carry a weapon.

A parent/youth hunt will take place on April 12. Primitive weapons or shotguns are allowed for this special hunt. The youth must be 15 years of age or younger. The adult must be licensed in accordance with the Georgia hunting regulations and will not be allowed to carry a weapon.

Each day, the hunts will begin one hour before sunrise and conclude at noon. Late arrivals will not be admitted. The hunts are limited to 10 hunters per day selected by random drawing. Three separate drawings will be conducted – one for each hunt day. Hunters must submit a letter requesting consideration for the hunts and should specify the date of the hunt they want to be considered for. Included in the letter must be name, mailing address and daytime phone number. Address letters to Ken Boyd, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J.
