Hartwell Lake comprises nearly 56,000 acres of water with a shoreline of 962 miles. Generally the Tugaloo River section of the lake is considered the best area for water-skiing, both the Tugaloo River and the Seneca river are considered prime fishing areas and the "Big Water" area south of I-85 is the best area for sailing and large boats. Over 80 recreation and other areas provide plenty of public access. We have listed here State Parks, day use areas and Marinas of special interest .

A - Tugaloo State Park (Lavonia, GA): From I-85 GA Exit 59, south on 77, right on Knox Bridge Crossing (Ga 59), right on 328, then right on Tugaloo State Park Road. Camping, cottages, picnic tables, playground, launch ramp, sandy swim beach, miniature golf, tennis, volleyball, horseshoes, nature trails, and special events. (706)356-4362.

B - Lake Hartwell State Park (Fair Play, SC): From I-85 SC Exit 1, north 1 mile on SC Hwy 11. Camping, launch ramp, picnic tables, playground, store, nature trail. (864)972-3352

This scenic 680-acre Upcountry state park, with its fourteen miles of shoreline, is popular with fishermen, nature lovers and campers. Conveniently located just off I-85, the park offers thickly wooded areas in addition to scenic views of the lake and distant foothills. It features 117 RV campsites, park store/tackle shop, 31 tent sites, picnic area with shelter, boat ramp, playground equipment, and a nature trail. Campsites are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site has water and electrical hookups and is convenient to hot showers and restrooms. A dump station is available in the campground for RV's. A picnic shelter and outdoor basketball court may be used without charge or reserved in advance for a nominal fee.

D - Sadlers Creek State Park (Anderson, SC): Off SC-187, 13 miles SW of Anderson. Camping, picnic area, playground, nature trails. (864)226-8950.

E - Fair Play Recreation Area: Exit I-85 at SC exit 2, follow this road south until it ends at the recreation area. Beach, playground, picnic tables, pavilion, launch ramp with courtesy dock.
        

F -Broyles Recreation Area: Exit I-85 at SC Exit 11, take Hwy 24 south about 1 mile then follow the signs. Beach, picnic area, playground, launch ramp.

G - Friendship Recreation Area: Exit I-85 at SC Exit 11, take hwy 24 north about 4 miles and turn right on Coneross Road (184), follow signs. Beach, picnic area, launch ramp.

H - Singing Pines Recreation Area: From Hartwell, GA, follow US 29 east toward Anderson about 6 miles. Beach, picnic area, playground, launch ramp.

I - Twelve Mile Recreation Area: From Clemson take 133 north about 1 mile. Beach, picnic area, playground, launch ramp.

J - Weldon Island Recreation Area: From I-85 take SC Exit 4, follow signs about 6 miles south. Beach, picnic area, launch ramp.

K - Broken Bridge Fishing Pier: US 123 at the GA - SC line. Fishing pier, picnic tables, launch ramp.

L - Hartwell Dam and Power Plant: From Hartwell GA take US 29 North. Tours June - Labor Day. Museum, exhibits, picnic tables, pavilion, paved walkway across dam. (706)376-8756.
